(More customer reviews)Overall the Bosch TCHS hole cutters are an excellent design. Drawbacks include the need to use only the Bosch quick change arbor, the inability to stack these or add them to an existing set of hole saws, and they need an extra long special Bosch pilot bit that comes only in a carbide masonry style. The Bosch masonry pilot bit is slow to bore through wood and makes it a lot more difficult to remove the cut piece of wood so you can start making the next hole.
Cutting depth is excellent and about 3/4 inch more than "deep" bi-metal hole saws. Cutting speed is excellent in most materials and it works very well even in Hardie siding which would quickly dull a bi-metal hole saw with its high speed steel teeth.
Good choice for cordless drills as a lot less power is needed compared to using a bi-metal hole saw as their is a lot less sidewall contact and less friction.
Another hole cutter we have switched to using is the Blue Boar Universal hole cutter which has a similar design but more tungsten carbide cutting teeth and more side slots and will attach to a standard hole saw arbor and can use standard pilot bits.
BLUE BOAR 4-1/4" (108mm) Super Duty Universal TCT 2-1/4" deep tungsten carbide hole saw cuts more materials faster than any other hole saw. Hard RA 90-91 carbide teeth for faster cutting and longer life ultra deep side gullets for faster plug removal
